Salvatore Anthony Carro

Salvatore Anthony Carro was born on October 11, 1935 and passed away in Phillipsburg, New Jersey on August 22, 2025. Sal once described his top skill on a resume as his “ability to relate with people!” and he carried that skill with him throughout his entire life. No matter who came to cross his path, he always had a smile on his face and an anecdote to share. He continued to make friends, attend diners, house family history, and root for the Yankees, Giants, and PHS until the very end.

As a Phillipsburg High School graduate from the class of 1953, Sal was a proud supporter of Phillipsburg Athletics, and never missed the opportunity to keep up with a game. Despite the fact that he did not attend college, he would spread the news that he went to “Phillipsburg University,” which only further solidified his pride in his school and his town. After his Rank E-4 Honorable Discharge from Fort Knox, Kentucky as a Personnel Classification Specialist in 1961, Sal held positions working for Ingersoll Rand Co., Fuller Co., and Conmec, Inc. However, his favorite job always seemed to be that of a son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend.

Sal is survived by his two children, Denise Carro Valle, her husband Jeffrey Valle, and their four children, Kayla, Brady, Emma, and Tia Valle, as well as Charles Carro and his two children, Jackson and Dalton Carro. He is also survived by his sister, Concetta (Sue) Renner and her husband John, as well as his nieces Stephanie, Anne, Mary Angela, and Gina, and his nephews Jimmy, Rickie, and David. Steve Ludwinski also survives Sal and helps to keep his memory alive among all of their friends and neighbors at Clymer Village.

Sal is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Charles Carro, his sister, Santa Caroprese, and her husband, Salvatore Caroprese, as well as his lifelong best friend, Richard DeGerolamo, better known as DeG.

No matter the time, place, or occasion, Salvatore Anthony Carro was a friend to everyone. His presence always invited kindness and excitement into any room, as his top priority was comfort and connectivity with the people around him. He found joy in the simple things, such as soup, lemonade, or copious amounts of sugar in his coffee, but shared how he was brought the most joy through spending time with family. He especially loved true Italian family dinners where he could eat spaghetti and meatballs while spending hours at the table.  Sal will never be forgotten, as he spread so much long-lasting love to all people with which he interacted throughout his time on Earth.

A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, from 10 – 11:00 am at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg, NJ, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. The interment will be at St. Philip & St. James Cemetery in Greenwich Township, NJ.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Harker’s Hollow Golf Club, 950 Uniontown Rd, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865, following the interment.
