Henry Martyn (“Hank”) Hoyt
Henry Martyn (“Hank”) Hoyt, 82, of Finesville NJ passed away on August 28 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township. Henry was born in Morristown, NJ on July 30, 1942 to Henry M. and Helen Hall Hoyt.
At the Frederick Gunn School in Washington CT Hank was a member of the soccer team, the wrestling team, and he rowed on the crew. He graduated from Denison University in 1965 with a degree in English Literature. He then enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Army Intelligence in Germany.
Hank served as a news reporter first for the Gloucester (MA) Daily Times and then for the Asbury Park Press. After earning a Master of Science degree in Library and Informational Sciences from Rutgers University, he worked as a corporate information specialist for Ernst & Young and Mathew Bender (NY) and National Starch (NJ.)
Hank was an avid bird watcher and naturalist and enjoyed American Literature and history. With his wife and two sons, the family enjoyed biking, sailing and kayaking in New Jersey and ocean kayaking off the Massachusetts coast.
Hank was the direct descendent of Governor Henry M. Hoyt of Pennsylvania.
Hank is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elizabeth Sklar Hoyt of Finesville NJ, and his two sons, Charles Hoyt of Brooklyn NY, Charles’ daughter, Mavis Hoyt: and Eric Sklar Hoyt of Providence RI, and Eric’s son, Casimir Landry. He is also survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Bayles of Morristown, Phil Hoyt of Portland, OR, Frances Hoyt of Basking Ridge, Paul Hoyt of Crystal River FL, and Alex D. Hoyt of Zagreb, Croatia. A private gathering honoring Hank will be held at a later date.
