Elizabeth Durazzi Micci
Elizabeth Durazzi Micci, 94, of Palmer Township PA, formerly of Lopatcong and Forks Townships, entered into eternal life Monday August 12, 2024 at home surrounded by her children and family.
Elizabeth was born September 7, 1929 in Phillipsburg NJ to Joseph and Amalia Badini Durazzi. She was married to the love of her life Antonio Micci, who predeceased her on June 27, 2019, just two weeks before their 70th wedding anniversary.
Elizabeth is survived by son Paul Micci and wife Marianne Casciole Micci of Bethlehem Township PA, son Thomas Micci and wife Sandra Freer Micci of Bath PA, and daughter Nora Micci of Palmer Township with whom she resided; 5 grandchildren: Gina Micci Teel (Michael), Lucas Micci (Stephanie), Laurel Micci, April Micci and Justin Micci; 9 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings Aurelio (Jack) Durazzi, Lena Durazzi Pierfedeici and Laura Durazzi Roscioli.
Elizabeth grew up in her family’s grocery business, Joseph Durazzi and Son, in the Pursel Hill section of Phillipsburg, where she loved helping her brother and father serve customers, stock shelves and make homemade sausage. As a girl, she loved the Yankees, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelly and dancing the jitterbug. Elizabeth graduated from Brensinger Elementary School and Phillipsburg High School class of 1946.
Elizabeth was a loving wife, homemaker, wonderful mother to her three children, devoted grandmother and great-grandmother and faithful friend to many. After raising her children, Elizabeth spent 20 years as a teacher’s aide in Phillipsburg’s Freeman School, where she was initially hired for her Italian language skills to help young students from three families who had arrived from Italy, and also families from Columbia. Elizabeth gained much joy and satisfaction from the students she helped. She was well-loved and respected by teachers, administrators and students.
Elizabeth was a member of the SIM Italian club’s Women’s Auxiliary and the Castel de Lucio Club, and was a past volunteer for RADPRIN, a radio newspaper reading service for blind and print impaired.
Elizabeth loved to play cards and word games. But her greatest passion was cooking. Honoring traditions and recipes from her Italian heritage, preparing delicious meals for her family and friends, giving Italian cooking lessons in her home, and providing meals to friends and neighbors who were ill or experiencing any special life event.
Services for Elizabeth were private and were coordinated by the Finegan Funeral Homes of Phillipsburg & Alpha.
