Myrna “Sissy” (Butler) Pursell

Myrna “Sissy” (Butler) Pursell, formerly of Forks Township, PA, and Alpha, NJ, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at Abington Manor in Easton, PA. She was the devoted wife of the late Leo R. Pursell, Sr., who preceded her in death, and with whom she is now reunited.

Born to the late Beulah and Martin Butler, Myrna treasured the family and friends who meant so much to her. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

A 1957 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Myrna worked in accounting at Peter P. Dennis, Inc., following earlier positions at Phillipsburg National Bank. She also served part-time in the Alpha Public School cafeteria. She enjoyed traveling, organized bus trips for AARP, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Myrna was a faithful member of United Presbyterian Church in Alpha and the Ladies Auxiliary of both the Alpha and Huntington Fire Companies.

Survivors include her children, Jill Homa (Greg), Cheryl Pursell, Cathy Harrison (Charles), and Leo R. Pursell, Jr. (“Pete”) (Jacqueline); grandchildren, Jonelle Davis (Steve), Gregory Homa (Mandy), Natalie Pursell, Melanie Pursell, Paige Pursell, Megan Schofield, and Jason Paulus; great-grandchildren, Rowan Davis, Rayne Davis, Hunter Homa, and Colton Homa; and three sisters-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family extends special thanks to her caregivers, Jen, Lou, and Linda, as well as the staff of Abington Manor, for their compassionate care during the past three months.

In addition to her parents and husband, Myrna was predeceased by her brothers Alfred, Myron, and Millard, and by her son-in-law, Robert Wysocki.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Finegan Funeral Home, 924 Second Avenue, Alpha, NJ. A funeral service will follow at noon, with burial immediately afterward at the United Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Alpha, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Myrna’s memory to the Alpha Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, 1109 Lee Avenue, Alpha, NJ 08865, or the Huntington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, 1 Maple Avenue, Phillipsburg, NJ.
