Cynthia M. Porter

Cynthia M. Porter (Fitzgibbon), 77, of Allentown, PA, formerly of Alpha, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025 at Atrium of Allentown after a 6-year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on March 11, 1948 in Easton, PA, a daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth Mason Fitzgibbon.

Cindy grew up in North Babylon, New York on Long Island before moving to Alpha after her father passed at the age of 16. She attended Phillipsburg High School and eventually married Thomas Savary and had two children. She was often employed in secretarial jobs but her career was a resident coordinator at Warren Hospital for over 25 years. She moved to Pennsylvania in 1984 with teenagers in tow where she continued to be a devoted mother co-parenting with their father and remarried.

She maintained a love of adventure and learning and welcomed any and all excursions making memories from trips to the city to see the latest Broadway show, traveling abroad and throughout the United States; she enjoyed music/concerts, wineries and botanical gardens. She loved ice skating and dancing as well. She was a member of the Red Hat Society Morning Angels Chapter for many years going on numerous bus trips and brunches. She was an avid football fan and remained devoted to her Dallas Cowboys. Cindy was a fabulous friend, kind, warm and genuine with a great sense of humor and spontaneity to never let grass grow under her feet.

She enjoyed gardening and her flowers, and was always making bouquets. The crowning glory came with the arrival of her grandchildren and retirement to be spending all the spare time with her grandsons. Whether it was babysitting, school functions, parties or sports games she was always supporting their endeavors.  She delighted in her grandsons, if not more than raising her own children, and she especially loved her grand dogs and her very own beloved dog Marley.

She left behind a legacy of positivity, kindness, grace and compassion. Her love for family and friends was immeasurable, she had an appreciation for beauty and she was all that inside and out. She became a favorite at her facility with her sweet smile and mannerisms. She never lost her sparkle and she maintained gratitude for her life despite the interruption from her disease. Even in her diminished state she truly embodied the adage of a life well lived.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Porter Jr., her son, Mark T. Savary along with her siblings, Harry Rothrock and Elizabeth Kerekes. Cindy is survived by her loving daughter, Paula (Savary) D’Abbene and her husband Robert of Macungie, PA, along with her grandchildren, Gavin and Garett D’Abbene.

Donations can be made to any dementia cause or simply plant a flower in remembrance of this beautiful human. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 21st, 2025 at 1 PM at Paula’s home, 6867 Sunflower Lane, Macungie, Pa. 18062.

The Finegan Funeral Homes of Phillipsburg and Alpha are coordinating her arrangements.
