Susan R. Jones
Susan R. Jones, born Susan Mary Rasmus in Rochester, NY, on September 25, 1947, passed into God’s future on March 18, 2026, after bravely enduring a long and complicated illness.
Susan was a deep thinker and majored in History and Philosophy at the University of Rochester. In 1969, she took a class at Colgate-Rochester Divinity School, where her husband-to-be, David, was a seminarian. They were married on September 8, 1970. Over time, Susan became the mother of two sons. When they were sufficiently grown, she got a Master’s Degree in Education from SUNY Oneonta, and taught for several years in Upstate New York. When David received a ministerial call to New Jersey, Susan decided to minister to older folks in the area through a specialty clothing business that served nursing home residents. She also held for several years the position of Executive Director of Greenwich Cemetery in Stewartsville, NJ, and oversaw a major expansion of that cemetery, which, appropriately, is her final resting place. Susan had several passions: her six grandchildren, birds, figure skating, shopping, world-traveling, and keeping up with current events. As a student of history, she was very concerned about what was happening in our country and the world.
Susan is survived by her husband, her sons, Robert (Lisa) of Pittsford, NY, and Evan (Randi) of Holland Twp, NJ; her grandchildren, Juniper, Liam, Rhys, Desmond, Emlyn, and Kira; her brother, Bart (Barbara) Rasmus of Baldwinsville, NY; her sisters-in-law, Ellen, Karen, and Liz; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her best friend, Judy. She was predeceased by her mother, Helen Britt Rasmus.
A Memorial Service for Susan will be held on Friday, April 24, at 10:30 AM at Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 17 Greenwich Church Road in Stewartsville with Pastor Mary Beth Mardis-LeCroy officiating. The Finegan Funeral Homes of Phillipsburg & Alpha are coordinating arrangements.
