Deodath “James” Roopchand
Deodath “James” Roopchand, departed this world on December 24th, 2025 surrounded by his family. He is reunited in his heavenly abode with his beloved parents and siblings Warrie, Seudath, Grace, Myrtle, Roodal and Patrick.
He was a loving and devoted husband to Leela and together they raised five beautiful children: the late Kenneth, Sharon, Susan DeSouza, husband Kirk DeSouza, Helen Baldwin, husband Anthony Baldwin, and Kennedy “Bobby”. He had 8 grandchildren. Narad, Naresh, Shanna, Narendra “Robo” Anthony, Alexandria, Joseph, and Aliyah. He had 3 great grandchildren. Michael “Jr”, Nylah, and Samuel.
James was adored by his nieces and nephews. No matter what they had to do, they always made the time to see him and he loved them as his own.
James passed at the age of 78. He grew up in the village of El Dorado where he lived in Trinidad. He was the 6th of 11 children. He is survived by his siblings Ivy, Pramie, Gloria and Sandra whom he loved so dearly.
James was an amazing person who was kind, caring, generous and brought out the best in everyone. His optimism, cheerfulness and humor inspired those around him and his love of life continues to inspire all of those who were touched by his love. He was the pillar of the Roopchand family and his legacy will carry on throughout generations. He will be greatly missed.
A calling hour will be held on Monday, December 29. 2025, from 10 – 11 am at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg, NJ, with a funeral service beginning at the 11:00 am at the funeral home.
