It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter L. Howard Jr., lovingly known as “Poppa,” who passed away on July 26th at the age of 75. Born on December 26, 1949, in the Bronx, New York, Walter leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and deep devotion to his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter L. Howard, and his beloved mother, Virginia Tina Howard. He is survived by his loving wife, Milagros (Milly); his sons, Walter III and Alexander; his daughter, Rhonda; and his three sisters, Barbara, Amenia, and Carol, who shared a lifelong bond filled with laughter, love, and unwavering support. He also leaves behind his daughters-in-law, Maritza and Mitzi, and his cherished grandchildren: Hudson, Harlee, Frankie, Latoya, Rasheed, and one more grandchild, Georgia Maye, lovingly on the way.
Poppa had a steady, compassionate presence, a man who led his family with wisdom, humor, and heart. His energy lit up every room. Whether singing, dancing, or simply being silly to make someone smile, his warmth and joy drew people in. He made others feel special just by being himself. He was the rock of his family and the quiet strength behind so many meaningful moments. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
A legacy of love will continue to illuminate our lives, even in the darkest of hours. May Walter’s spirit soar on wings of eternal peace. Forever.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 1:00 PM at Central Baptist Church, 505 Wylie Street, Avenel, NJ 07001.
