Florence H. Brooks
In Loving Memory of Florence H. Brooks.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Florence H. Brooks, who left us peacefully on June 20, 2025.
Born in Garfield, New Jersey to loving parents Paul and Anne Schaller, she spent most of her youth in Oak Ridge NJ, where she enjoyed peaceful days on the lake surrounded by family and friends. At the young age of 11, her mother passed away and she stepped into the role of helping to care for her three brothers, whom she loved dearly throughout her life.
She was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Hillside NJ as a Customer Service Representative/Supervisor for 18 years, and was well known for her bright and engaging personality.
In 1971, she married the love of her life, Mathew Brooks, who passed away in 2018.
They shared 47 wonderful years together as husband and wife. They were the true definition of soulmates-partners who deeply loved, respected, and supported one another through all of life’s joys and challenges. While we mourn her loss we find great comfort that she and “Pop” are finally reunited again.
Flo, as she was affectionately called, and Pop shared and practiced their Methodist faith with everyone they encountered.
Throughout her life, Flo embodied the true meaning of hard work and love. She had an infectious sense of humor, a free spirit always ready for another adventure, and a laugh that would light up a room. Whether enjoying sunny days at the beach or relaxing in the pool with friends and family, or traveling to exotic locations, she cherished every moment spent with those she loved the most.
She had a unique and special bond with animals, deeply caring for her many cats and dogs.
Flo is survived by her loving children Deborah (Thomas) Polet, George Riker, and Kim Riker, step children Monica Mann and Pamela Brooks and the late William and Mathew Brooks. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. All of whom brought her immense pride and joy in her life.
Her legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and the capacity to help others in times of need will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Rest easy our sweet, Flo.
