John Joseph Toth

John Joseph Toth, 76, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 with his family by his side.  Born on March 19, 1949 in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the second of five children of John Steve and Ethel Antonia Toth.  He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, colleague, and friend.

John grew up in Edison, NJ and was educated at Our Lady of Peace and J.P. Stevens High School.  An alter server at Our Lady of Hungary Church and an active boy scout, John spent his childhood surrounded by siblings, cousins, and friends.  Upon graduation from high school, John traveled to Coral Gables, FL where he worked hard through college, graduating with a business degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

As an adult, John was well-known and highly respected in the transportation industry.  His passion and expertise were in tank container leasing, having worked for Hatco Chemical Co., Englehard Minerals and Chemicals, and Transamerica, before starting Northbrook Container Leasing in 1992 and eventually JJT Transportation Consulting where he worked as a marketing agent for Exsif Worldwide.  His career made him a man of the world, living in California, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida, and eventually Pennsylvania, while traveling internationally for over fifty years.  John touched many lives along the way.

John met his wife, Karen, in 1978 at Engelhard Minerals and Chemicals—where interoffice relationships were strictly prohibited—and they married in 1980.  They traveled extensively before welcoming their children Jacquie and JR in 1985 and 1989.  They lovingly raised their family throughout New England, but always called Stewartsville, NJ their home.  When not golfing with JR at Harker’s Hollow, John proudly served his community on the Board of Education in Greenwich Township from 1997 to 2004.  Never one to sit still for long, John and his family lived in Ponte Vedra, FL for several years, where he enjoyed working as a starter at TPC Sawgrass, meeting many friends along the way.  Upon returning north to Williams Township, PA in 2012, John became a member of Williams Township Historical Society and continued pursuing his lifelong passion for nature photography.

John is survived by his wife, Karen (Chiccone) Toth, children Jacqueline (Toth) Kowalczuk and husband Kyle Kowalczuk, John Robert Toth and wife Michelle (Pool) Toth, grandchildren Cameron Kowalczuk, Austin Kowalczuk, and Charlotte Toth, along with siblings Anthony Toth, Alicia (Toth) Liburdi, and Patricia Toth and their families, and his beloved Westie, Rookie.  He is predeceased by his parents John and Ethel Toth and sister Elizabeth (Toth) Kunes.  His steady presence, unwavering support, and enduring love will be missed by all.
