She was born on June 29, 1937, in Camden, New Jersey, and lived a life rich with love, laughter, and cherished memories until her passing at the age of 87.

Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Howard E. Ireland, with whom she shared nearly 50 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Debra Mongi, and her sister, H. Dolores Thompson. Barbara’s legacy lives on through her loving family, including her daughters, Phyllis Imhof and husband Paul, Joyce Anderson and husband Tom Woolston, Jennifer Ireland, and Cathryn Barrell and husband Will. She was the proud grandmother of Renee, John, Jim, Rich, Zach, Luke, and Victoria, along with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Barbara’s journey began in Camden, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Daniel P. Spaeth and Hilda D. Hulme. She was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Robert V. Hensley. After a brief time working at the Oaklyn Diner, Barbara dedicated herself to her family, embracing the role of a lifelong homemaker—a title she wore with pride, affectionately dubbed a “domestic goddess” by Howard.

Barbara was known for her infectious laughter, her zest for life, and embellished storytelling. She had a remarkable ability to bring people together, hosting countless parties and gatherings where her culinary talents shone brightly. A passionate cook, she created meals that were not only delicious but also topped with love. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality.

Beyond her culinary skills, Barbara had diverse interests that kept her spirit vibrant. She found joy in listening to country music, crocheting baby booties, hats, scarves and mittens for her loved ones, and engaging in jigsaw puzzles and word finds that challenged her mind. Her humor, generosity, and unwavering support made her a great mother and friend, embodying the belief that a generous portion of salt, sugar, and scotch could lead to a long, happy life.

Barbara’s family deeply appreciates the compassionate care she received during her final days. They extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital and especially to Lehigh Valley Hospice for their kindness and support.
