Marie Soeurette Laguerre Cassagnol

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Marie Soeurette Laguerre Cassagnol, who transitioned into eternal rest on April 18, 2025.
Born in Haiti on November 1, 1948, to the late Duliève Laguerre and Théralise Daréus, Marie grew into a woman of grace, intellect, and boundless love. She was a pillar of strength, a compassionate listener, and a true nurturer to everyone around her.
Marie was a proud mother to Marie Anne B. Cassagnol and Dave Owens Cassagnol, and a devoted grandmother to Brendan D. Cassagnol, Tristan O. Cassagnol, Zaylan N. Cassagnol, Kaydan E. St. Juste, Syra B. St. Juste Alenah St. Juste. Her grandchildren were her heart, and she poured her love into each of them every day.
She is preceded in death by her first born son Henry Robert Cassagnol, siblings Geneviève Laguerre, Lionel Laguerre, Eliève Laguerre, Miliève Laguerre, and Marc Laguerre. She is survived by her loving sisters Théralda Laguerre Eugene, Luce Laguerre, and Anante Laguerre, Son in Law Dr. Evens St Juste and many cherished nieces, nephews, friends, extended family.
Marie loved to talk—especially with friends and family, whether nearby or across the world. She was an accomplished writer, a passionate music lover, and could often be found enjoying African films or engaged in deep political conversations as a proud Democrat.
A talented seamstress and fierce advocate for education, Marie always encouraged her children to prioritize their studies and strive for excellence. She believed that knowledge was the key to empowerment.
Her presence lit up every room. Her love was unwavering. Her legacy is everlasting.
We will miss her laughter, her stories, her strength, and her unconditional love.
May her soul rest in perfect peace.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, from 6 -8 pm at the Finegan Funeral Home at 924 2nd Avenue in Alpha, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, beginning at the funeral home at 11:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 1 pm at St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, 430 S. Main Street in Phillipsburg, NJ. The interment will be at St. Philip & St. James Cemetery in Greenwich Township, NJ.
