Charles G. Markham
Charles G. Markham passed peacefully at home on October 24, 2024. He was a kind and free willed gentleman who lived a very adventurous life.
He was proud to have been a member of the Army Air Corps during WWII with an honorable discharge. Originally from Fanwood, NJ, he later settled in Bernardsville, NJ as owner of Markham Motors, which later relocated to Somerville, NJ.
Charles was extremely competitive, competing in Hill Climbs as well as Horse Jumping with his favorite horse, Red Fox. He raised Bouvier des Flanders, his special one, Tubby, by his side for many years, accompanying him to work.
He also enjoyed flying. When asked later in life what his favorite of all his adventures, his eyes lit up, and unhesitatingly said to his wife, Flying!
Charles, additionally, frequently travelled between Cayman, where he had dual residency, and Florida, along with his wife and stepdaughter.
Charles is survived by his constant companion and loving wife Bernadette (nee Wagner Orecchio), and stepdaughter, Alexandria Orecchio and her partner Luis Mauchy, granddaughter Zalia Mauchy, sister Diana Niemeyer and husband William, of Colorado, and cousin Francis Owen of Connecticut, his father-in-law Leonard Wagner of Bridgewater, NJ, sisters-in-law, Patricia Carlin, Newark Valley, NY, Karen Roush, Harmony, NJ, Diane Vreeland, Flemington, NJ, Janet Wagner, Bridgewater, NJ, brother-in-law, Lawrence Wagner and wife Judi, of Tennessee. Additionally, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alice Owen and George Markham, sister Karin Hills, and niece Jennifer Hills, and brother-in-law George Vreeland.
Services will be held at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg, NJ on Thursday, October 31, 2024, beginning with a calling hour from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, with a funeral service beginning at noon at the funeral home. The Interment will be at Harmony Presbyterian Cemetery in Harmony Township, NJ.
