John Houston
The world lost a wonderful kind soul in the gentle giant of a man of John Houston, 63, of Bangor PA, on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
John was born on Friday, January 21, 1961 in Elizabeth New Jersey to James and Bernadette Houston. After attending Thomas Edison Vocational High School, he joined the US Army, where he trained as a helicopter mechanic and first started his life-long obsession with motorcycles. After his honorable discharge from the army, John followed in his father’s footsteps in the International Union of Operating Engineers, where he enjoyed 42 of years of service, before retiring only last year.
John met and married the love of his life, Tarren (Tammy) Sandford in 1987. During their almost 38 years of marriage, they had three children, Michael, Jessica, and Sara, raising them in Phillipsburg, NJ.
The joy of John’s life was his family – spending time with his wife and his 4 grandchildren, Erilyn, Killian, and most recently, the twins, Amara and Owen. His family was his world – and you could feel and see the pride and love on his face whenever he was with them or they were even mentioned.
John retired in 2023 and moved to Bangor, PA where he would have more space for the children to play, grow his garden and beautiful country roads to ride his motorcycle.
John was predeceased by his parents, James and Bernadette Houston, his sister Eileen, brother James and his granddaughter Evelyn.
He is survived by his loving wife Tammy, cherished children; Michael, wife Lorynn, Jessica and Sara, adored grandchildren; Erilyn, Killian, Amara and Owen, sisters; Marion Houston Durning, husband Patrick, Bernadette Houston Neill, husband Colin, sister Catherine Houston, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends, whose hearts are a bit heavier this day with the loss of John Houston
