Richard H. Salter Sr.
Richard H. Salter Sr., 86, of Harmony Township, NJ passed away on July 19, 2024, at his residence.
Born January 26, 1938, in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Clayton Salter and Jennie Hess Salter. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a son, the late Richard H. Salter Jr.
Richard was a member of the Teamsters as a truck driver for multiple freight companies. He began his career driving cement mixers for then Steckel’s Concrete and concluded his career with Rahns Concrete. He was a member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church where he also served as a deacon. An avid NASCAR fan and Ford enthusiast, he was a collector of die cast cars, trucks, and tractors. As a young man, he worked on various dairy farms in the Harmony area.
Survivors are his wife, Betty J. Reiss Salter, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, son Robert Salter and wife Terri, of Harmony Township. Grandchildren are Richard H. III, Justin, Nicholas, Lindsey, Farrahlynn, and Chad, as well as great grandchildren; Makenzie, Abigail, Milo, and Nellie. Mr. Salter is also survived by a sister, Martha Stickley and husband Tom, as well as nieces, Donna, Dawn, and Danielle.
A Graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Harmony Presbyterian Cemetery at 11:00 am. There are no calling hours. The Finegan Funeral Homes of Phillipsburg & Alpha are coordinating arrangements.
