Virginia R. Sinko
Virginia R. Sinko, of Alpha, NJ, quietly passed away at home on December 1, 2025 at the age of 97 with her family by her side. Virginia was born on June 27, 1928 in Flemington, NJ., a daughter of the late William Hight of Hampton, NJ, and Mary Fulper Hight of Easton, PA. She grew up in the Glen Gardner area as a child, and was known as “Ginner”.
Virginia worked as a floor lady at the former Gary Lee Co. in Alpha, NJ. After her children were of school age, she then worked as a cafeteria aide at the Alpha Public School. She retired 46 years later. She was known to many school children as “the cafeteria lady” or “Mrs. Sinko” she always went to work with change in her pockets for those who forgot their lunch money.
Virginia was married to her sweetheart, Alex J. (an alpha boy) on June 17, 1950. They were together for 69 years before his passing on Feb. 4, 2020. In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her 2 brothers, William and Robert, a sister Luella Hubbard and a son, James.
Virginia was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Alpha, NJ, and was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Lawler and her husband Dennis of Easton, Pa. her son Gary Sinko, of Alpha, NJ, her daughter-in-law, Susan of Easton, Pa., and a grandson Jamie of Saylorsburg, Pa., along with several nieces and nephews.
Upon Virginia’s wishes, her services will be private at The Finegan Funeral Home, Alpha, NJ. Interment will take place at The United Presbyterian Cemetery, Alpha, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, her family would like memorial donations to be made to the United Presbyterian Church Alpha, NJ., 859 High St., Alpha, NJ. 08865.
