Walter F. “Smokey” Troxell

Walter F. “Smokey” Troxell, 77, formerly from Phillipsburg, NJ passed away peacefully Monday, March 1, 2021 in his home in Easton, PA. Born February 5, 1944 in Easton, he was the son of the late Arlington Troxell and Helen (Kozakiewicz) Troxell. 

He and his wife, Jeanne (Kepler) Troxell, were married June 25, 1966. 

Smokey was a proud 1961 graduate of Phillipsburg high school, where he was a member of the PHS basketball program. After high school, he served the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965.  

He worked at the former J.T. Baker Chemical Company in Phillipsburg, NJ from 1968 until his retirement in 2008. Smokey holds the distinction of being the longest standing Secretary Treasurer ever for the USW Local 10–00729, holding the position for over 35 years. Smokey also served two terms as President of the Regional Drug and Cosmetic Counsel. He continued to mentor and advise his friends and coworkers even after his retirement. 

He was an avid baseball card collector, tremendous Phillipsburg High School sports fan, and throughout his life was involved in various youth organizations, including the Steele Hill Bulldogs and the P.A.C. Wrestling Team. 

In addition to his wife, Jeanne, Smokey is survived by his daughters Kimberly of Easton, Michelle (Jeffrey) of Hellertown and son Gregory (wife, Shannon) of Phillipsburg; four grandchildren Michael Reiss, Cael Troxell, Grace Troxell, and Brooke Troxell; one great grandson Collen Reiss; several nieces and nephews. 

Smokey is also survived by his siblings Arlington (Butch) Troxell (wife, Angela) of Phillipsburg, NJ, Shirley Fretz (husband, Kerry) of Chesapeake, VA, Carolyn Snyder (husband, Douglas) of Easton, PA and Elaine O’Brien (husband, Joseph) of Mickleton, NJ. 

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 4, 2021 from 3:00pm-6:00pm at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg, NJ. The Funeral Service and Interment will be private.  

The family asks that all those attending follow strict COVID protocols.
