Born in Moosic, Pa., on April 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Edward and Alma Miller Hughes.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II, stationed in Korea.
Stanley retired from The Phillipsburg National Bank, as a courier. He worked as a counselor with the kids at the Firth Youth Center for 20 years, and also worked as a supervisor for the Phillipsburg Clean Communities. He was a charter member of the AMVETS, Easton Post #17, a member of the Bernadine- May American Legion Post in Phillipsburg, and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He also served for 12 years as a member of the Phillipsburg Board of Education, serving several years as Vice President. He was a graduate of Easton High School in 1946.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Filomena Mazza Hughes with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage, and a daughter, Patricia Hughes-Lutz and her husband, Phillipsburg Councilman, Mark S. Lutz of Phillipsburg. Also, many nieces and nephews survive. He was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and Richard Becker, Thomas, Edward and David Hughes, and by his sisters, Audrey Biscontini, and Grace Guida.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday August 14, 2018 at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg, NJ, from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday August 15, 2018, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 500 Hillcrest Blvd., Phillipsburg. Additional viewing hour will be held from 10 am prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
