Sam R. Sofie

Sam R. Sofie, 85, of Lopatcong Twp., NJ, passed away on March 16, 2023 at St. Luke's Warren Campus. Born in Easton, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Anna (Valero) Sofie.

Sam is survived by his wife Barbara (Moyer) Sofie, sisters Margaret Johnson and Joyce Earnesti, son Shawn and his wife Kathy, Daughter Cheri Mellot, and grandchildren, Emilee and Nicole. Sam is also survived by his step-son Craig Rush and his wife Vickie and step-grandson Aaron. He was predeceased by his step-grandson Kevin.

Sam graduated from Easton High School in 1955 where he starred on the varsity basketball team. He attended Trenton State College before serving during peacetime with the United States Army. Sam then worked at several banks in the Easton area before his final job in the hardware department at Wal-Mart, Phillipsburg. He was well liked by his customers and co-workers.

Sam was proud to have been elected "King" on Senior Class Day at EHS. He was also proud to have coached the champion Drake's Cakes team in the Easton Recreational Basketball League.

Sam thoroughly enjoyed morning coffee with his pals at the Dunkin' on Memorial Parkway. Sam now has the best seat up above to cheer for his beloved New York Yankees.

At Sam's request, no services will be held. The Finegan Funeral Home, Phillipsburg, NJ has been entrusted with his arrangements.
