Robert "Bob" Anthony Sjosward

Robert “Bob” Anthony Sjosward, of Stewartsville, NJ passed away peacefully on September 5, 2022 at the age of 83.

Born on September 25, 1938 in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late John and Giovanini Castelli Sjosward. Bob served in the US Army from 1959 – 1962 as a paratrooper. After leaving the Army he married Margaret Schenk and spent 58 loving years together and raised three wonderful children. He dedicated 38 years of his life working for NJ Bell and Bell Atlantic, starting his career as a lineman and was later promoted to management before retiring in 2000.

Bob was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter and enjoyed going to bingo, the horse races and casino every now and again. He loved spending time with family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Bob was loved by all for his quick-witted humor, willingness to help anyone and outgoing personality.

He was a member of St. Anne’s Parish in Jersey City, NJ before moving to Stewartsville in 2003. He was a member of the Franklin Lions as well as multiple gun clubs in the area.

Bob is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Joseph and wife Connie, Robert and wife Joann, and daughter Jean Alessi and husband Frank. Grandchildren are Zachary, Connor, Andrew, Abigail, Jake, and Allison. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Beatrice Kenney.

Viewing hours will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 5-8pm at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 9:30am. The interment will then follow at the Fairview Cemetery, 500 Fairview Avenue in Fairview, NJ.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bob may be made to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Bob will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him but welcomed with open arms by family and friends who have gone before him. May he rest in peace.
