Richard J. Mantoni

Richard J. Mantoni, 89, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on February 28, 2020.

Born on October 25, 1930, in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was the son of the late Charles and Bianca (Mengucci) Mantoni.

Richard served in the Korean War with the United States Army and was an active volunteer firefighter with the Warren Chemical Fire Company for 50 years. He retired from Ingersoll-Rand in 1993, with whom he was employed his entire life and he tended bar locally for many years. His hobbies were his children and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Janet (Corona) Mantoni, his daughters, to whom he referred to as his angels, Renee Murnin and her husband Bill and Gina McRoberts and her companion Jason Poch, his grandchildren; Jena Martin and her husband Glen, Todd Bateman and his wife Christina, Katie Huertas and her husband Aaron, Reanin McRoberts, John McRoberts and his wife Stephanie, Tim McRoberts and his companion Allison and Michael McRoberts, and his six great-grandchildren. Richard is also survived by his siblings, Robert Mantoni and his wife Julianne and Gloria Kopfer as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Richard was predeceased by his nephew, Bobby Mantoni.

A Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2020, from 5 to 8 PM at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St, Phillipsburg, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial is then set for 10 AM the following day, Thursday, March 5, 2020, at St. Philip and St. James Church, 430 South Main Street, Phillipsburg, NJ. The interment will then be at the Northampton Memorial Shrine in Palmer Township, PA.

Richard’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the doctors, nurses and hospital staff for the wonderful care they gave him.
