Richard G. Barbadora

Born September 29, 1932, in Alpha, NJ, he was the son of the late George and Kathleen Kosa Barbadora.

Richard was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School, class of 1953, he played both football and baseball where he was named to the Star Ledger First Team All-State Football Squad in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, where he was Honorably Discharged as a Corporal. Richard retired from Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility as a Maintenance Engineer after 25 years of service. He was the past Mayor of Alpha, a member of the Board of Education, Alpha Planning Board, and the Town Council. Richard was also a member of the John Dolak American Legion Post, the Alpha Fire Department, and was on the Board of Directors of the New Jersey League of Municipalities, where he was one of the founding members. He was a founding member, a past president and served on the Board of Directors of the Phillipsburg High School Garnet Booster Club. He was on the Board of Directors and a member of the Phillipsburg/Easton Old Timers and was inducted into the Phillipsburg/ Easton Football Hall of Fame in 2007. His greatest joys were watching his two grandsons play football for his beloved Phillipsburg High School Stateliners, fishing and spending time with his family and working around the house. He also enjoyed puttering around Alpha looking for someone to talk to about the town. He was our HERO-the BEST we could ask for. 

Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years who he adored, Joyce Barbadora, of Alpha, NJ, his daughters; Deborah Boylan and her husband James, of Stewartsville, NJ and Pamela Hajdu and her husband John, of Lopatcong Township, NJ, his grandsons; Richard, Michael, Matthew and Kyle, his siblings; Viola Terry and her husband Clarence, Leona Albert, Donald Barbadora and his wife Gail and Bernard Barbadora, and his many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Barbadora.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019, from 5 to 8 PM at the Finegan Funeral Home, 924 Second Avenue, Alpha, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10 AM the following morning, Friday, March 22, 2019, at St. Mary Church, 830 5th Avenue, Alpha, NJ. The interment will then immediately follow at the United Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Alpha, NJ.
