Born in Phillipsburg, on December 29, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred Cruts Markle. His wife, Bernice H. Moser Markle, passed away in 1977. They were married on June 4, 1949. They had been married for 27 years at the time of her death.
Raymond was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1957. He was a member for 70 years of The Sprinkler Fitters Union Local #669. Raymond was a lifetime member of Harmony Volunteer Fire Co.
His true passion in life was flying. As a private pilot, he flew a Cessna 182, and was the owner-operator of Markle Airport, in Harmony Twp., from where he flew. He also loved camping, travelling, snowmobiling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Raymond is survived by his children; Mary Chandler and her husband Glen of Lebanon, NJ, Raymond J. Markle and his wife Lois of Harmony Twp., NJ, and David-John Markle and his wife Jennifer Hengst Markle of Harmony Twp., NJ. His grandchildren are Cole, Emma, Jeffrey, Megan, Diana, and Audrey, in addition to two great-grandchildren. Raymond’s uncle, Fred Large, is living in Fruitland Park, Fl. Also surviving is Raymond’s fiancé, Marie T. Williams, of Stockertown, Pa. Marie and Raymond have been together for 36 years.
Viewing hours will be held on Saturday March 17, 2018 from 9:30 am to 11 am at The Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Services will begin at 11 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Harmony Twp., NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hoving Home in Oxford, NJ at hovinghome.org
