Mary Kathryn Kaulius

Mary Kathryn Kaulius left this world after a long and fulfilling life on January 25, 2023, at the age of 93.  She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was born to the late Gustav J. and Marie (Duffy) Wallbillich on August 28, 1929.  A 1947 graduate of St. Philip and St. James High School, she married her lifelong friend and love, Alfred P. Kaulius, on May 9, 1953.  Together they raised five boys—James, Thomas, Robert, Richard, and Alfred Jr., better known as Skip.

Mary K. worked at Ingersoll-Rand, Uni-Forms, and the Journal of Commerce, but her life was devoted to raising her five boys, playing bridge with her lifelong card club friends, and following college basketball, particularly the alma maters of her sons and grandchildren.  As all those who came across Mary K. know,  she could not say enough about her family. As proud as Mary was of her children, she took even greater joy in her grandchildren Matthew, Katie, Jennifer, Holly, Emily, Nicholas, Abigail and great grandson, Henry.  She was so proud of their accomplishments, but most proud of the young adults that they have become.

Mary K. was a lifelong member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, where she and Alfred were in the inaugural group of lay eucharistic ministers.  She was also a devoted member of the Phillipsburg Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Marie Wallbillich; her husband Alfred; son Robert; and siblings Thomas, Gustav, and Francis Wallbillich and Phyllis Stanganelli.  She is survived by James and Judy Kaulius of Easton, PA; Thomas and Kim Kaulius of Phillipsburg, NJ; Richard Kaulius of Charlotte, NC; and Alfred and Jennifer Kaulius of Muskegon, MI.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 31, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Philip and St. James Church on 430 South Main Street in Phillipsburg, NJ.
