Marie Frances Shafer, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Although a failing heart took her away from this world, her love was a beacon of light for all who knew her.
She was born June 30th, 1931 in Easton, to Samuel and Angelina Schempri. She was a 1949 graduate of Phillipsburg High School. Marie married Clyde Harold Shafer in October of 1952; he preceded her in death in 1998.
She began work as a seamstress for Kasover Pants Factory in Easton at the age of 12, and retired after 35 years at the Journal of Commerce in Phillipsburg in 1978.
Marie was very social and cherished her family and friends. Her hands were rarely still. She sewed, crocheted, played bingo and card games, and took up shooting dice. She loved music from the Great American Songbook era and favored game shows on television. She shared her love of cooking with her family and friends, and took orders during the holidays for her delicious cookie trays.
Her grandson, Tyler Kohl, lovingly cared for her during the last two years of her life, before she entered ProMedica Nursing Home. Her kind neighbors, Maureen, Tara, and Donna also provided assistance and care throughout the years.
Marie attended Greater Shiloh Church in Easton.
Marie is survived by a daughter, Linda Kohl (and Lyndon) of Easton; a son, Thomas Shafer (and Chrissie) of Bethlehem; four sisters; Carol Caccese of Phillipsburg, Barbara Rodriguez of Hatfield, Eileen Schembri of Lansdale, MaryAnn Schembri of Lansdale, and Jeannie Schembri (deceased); three grandchildren: Kimberly Kohl (deceased), Silas Shafer, Jesse Kohl, and Jonathan Kohl; four great-grandchildren: Taylor Kohl (deceased), Tyler Kohl, Jolie Shafer, Angelina and Ezra Kohl; two great-great-grandchildren: Olivia Ventura, Tristan Ventura (deceased), and Gabriel Morales.
