Margaret E. (Johnson) Bruns

Margaret is survived by her husband of 63 years, John T. Bruns, a veteran Lehigh Valley sportswriter. She is also survived by her two sisters, Joan Shafer (Garry) of Stroudsburg, PA, and Kathryn Lennon (Francis) of Easton, PA; five children, son Thomas of Phillipsburg, daughter Kathleen Bonette and her husband, David, of Voorhees, NJ, daughter Karen of Macungie, son Kevin and his wife, Monika, of Wescosville, PA, and daughter Cynthia Rush and her husband, Patrick, of Macungie; seven grandchildren, Scott, Julie and Bradley Bonette, Lauren and Madison Bruns, and Jack and Katie Rush; a nephew, Christopher Johnson, and a cousin, Maryann Ignatz. She was predeceased by her brother, Russell.


Born in Phillipsburg to Russell "Duke" and Elsie (Ignatz) Johnson, Margaret graduated from St. Philip & St. James High School (Class of 1951) and was employed by the Journal of Commerce. 
She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Emmaus. In addition to spending time with her family, Margaret enjoyed watching sporting events and playing cards, Scrabble, and Words with Friends.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, beginning at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, 430 South Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Interment will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery in Alpha, NJ.
