Margaret A. Dashe

She was born August 1, 1920 in the family home in West Easton.  She was a daughter of the late Francis and Ellen (Dundon) Reilly.  Margaret was married to the late John Dashe with whom she celebrated 31 years of marriage.  He preceded her in death on May 23, 1987.

She was a 1938 graduate of Easton Catholic High School.  As a young girl, she worked as a newspaper carrier for the Easton Express and later at McCrory’s store in Easton.  She became employed during World War II as an administrative secretary for the Lehigh Foundries and worked there until 1956.  

She was elected tax collector in West Easton in 1978 and served in that position from 1979 to 1982.  Alongside her husband John, she worked as a sales representative for Lancaster Colony Products and American Mat Corporation.  She was a member of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she was active in the ladies auxiliary.

She is survived by son John F. Dashe, M.D. and wife Margot Geffroy, M.D., son Joseph Dashe and wife Kyra, daughter Ellen Dashe and husband Budd Coates, and six grandchildren, John R. Dashe, William Dashe, Benjamin Dashe, Patrick Dashe, Kelsey Coates, and Colin Coates.  She was preceded in death by sisters, Eleanora Reilly, Frances Reilly, twin sister Marie Kelly, and brothers Hugh, William, and Thomas Reilly.

Margaret enjoyed reading, poetry, history, Latin, playing pinochle, and all things Irish.  She learned to swim in the Lehigh River and was an excellent swimmer who continued to swim into her nineties at the YMCA.  She doted on her grandchildren and loved to make them Christmas dinners.  She was excellent at home-made baked goods and her coffee cake was a family favorite.  She was a walking encyclopedia of West Easton history, especially her beloved Front Street where she was raised. 

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00pmat the Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Palmer Township, Pa.  A Parastas service will be held at 5:30 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018, beginning at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Divine Liturgy at 10:00am at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 315 Fourth Street, West Easton, Pa.  Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery on Farmersville Road in Bethlehem Township.
