Born on March 24, 1943 in Poland, he was the son of the late Edmund and Franciszka Sulikowski Podgorski.
Jozef was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era, where he was involved in Military Intelligence in Germany. He was a Physical Education Teacher with the Middlesex County Votech School System for 48 years.
He lived in Germany for the first 6 years of his life, migrating to the U.S. in 1950. Jozef was an avid Duke Basketball fan, coached high school soccer for the Piscataway Votech, played football for the University of Delaware and later for an American military team in Germany. He celebrated 47 years of marriage with his wife Barbara.
His passions in life were, football, animals and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Leach Podgorski, his children, Anne Marie Dunn and her husband James of Westchester, Pa., Victor J. Podgorski ,and Marissa K. Podgorski . He is also survived by his brother, Zbigniew Podgorski of Brighton, Michigan, his beloved grandchildren, Matthew and Samantha Dunn and his beloved dog Cooper.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 9AM to 10AM at St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, 430 S. Main St. Phillipsburg, NJ, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM. Interment will follow at St. Philip & St. James Cemetery, Greenwich Twp., NJ.
