John Harper, 78, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away peacefully, while surrounded by his family, after a long battle with illness on Sunday, January 10, 2021.
Born on April 27, 1942, in Vineland, NJ, he was the son of the late Frederick and Anne (Murphy) Harper.
John first worked for SI Handling, in Forks Township, PA and then for FMC in Doylestown, PA. After retiring from FMC, John established Prestige Dry Cleaners. John was a longtime member of the Sierra Club, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Phillipsburg Catholic Booster Club. He coached baseball for Holy Name, served on the Phillipsburg School Board, was a founding member of the St. Philip and St. James Old Timers Soft Ball League, loved the Philadelphia Phillies and especially loved his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores (DiRaimondo) Harper, his sons; Gary Harper and his wife Lisa and Scott Harper and his wife Patti, his grandchildren; Jonathon, Jenna and Ava, his siblings; Robert Harper and his wife Beverly, Carol Herzog and her husband Joe, Eddie Harper and his wife Mel and Richard Harper and his wife Patti and his many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers, Fred and Jim Harper and his sisters, Pat Kohl and Bonnie Dexter.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 12 PM on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at St. Mary Church, 830 5th Ave, Alpha, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in John’s name, to the Joseph H. Firth Youth Center, 108 Fleming Drive, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865, as well as to St. Philip and St. James Church, 430 South Main St, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.
