Born in Easton, Pa., on July 23, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Martha Bracken Boyer. Her husband, William F. Buckley, passed away in 1989.
Joan retired in 1988 from the Journal of Commerce, formerly in Phillipsburg and then worked for many years at the Hunterdon Developmental Center in Clinton, NJ, also retiring from there. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1957. Joan enjoyed beach trips to Atlantic City, bingo, bowling, football, especially Joe Montana and the 49er’s, watching the Game Show Network, and most recently enjoying the outdoors. Also, she was a true fan of Elvis Presley, spending time watching Elvis movies and listening to her Elvis music collection.
Survivors include her children Linda Praschyk and husband Harry of West Easton, Joan Comunale and husband Anthony of Bangor, Pa., Sherry Matthew and Mike of Phillipsburg, Nancy Musgnung and husband Craig of Phillipsburg. Joan was predeceased by her daughter Billie Jo Buckley in 2012. Also surviving is her brother Leo Boyer and wife Floss of Phillipsburg, sisters-in-law Connie, Sue and Carolyn, grandchildren are Anthony and wife Lynn, Ryan and wife Telsa, Christina and husband Steve, Rebecca, Michael and wife Cherisha, Bronco and girlfriend Xiaojun, Scott, Ashley, Cody and Connor. Great-grandchildren are Nico, Cecelia, Ian, Logan, Hailey, Lucca, Mara, Teagan and one on the way. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Viewing hours will be held on Wednesday December 26, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm at The Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday December 27, 2018 at 11 am, with an additional viewing hour from 10 am to 11 am. Interment will be in Palmer Twp., Pa.
