Howard Falk

Howard Falk, age 86, passed away at home surrounded by his wife and daughters. Born in Philadelphia, son of Joseph and Leah Falk, Howard was a 1951 graduate of Phillipsburg High School and delivered the commencement address. A proud Stateliner alumnus, he was elected Alumni President and Reunion Chairman for the past 68 years. In 1954, he graduated from Lehigh University with highest honors. He was then commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and stationed at Camp Pendleton, where he met his wife, Shirley Krasner of San Diego. His experience in the Marine Corps formed many of the core values he lived by.

He returned to Phillipsburg and became an executive at Falk’s Food Basket, which later became Falk’s Discount Department Stores, operating in the Lehigh Valley for many years. Howard then became the proprietor of the Mohican Market in Easton, Pennsylvania and subsequently, the Del-Val Market in Milford, New Jersey.

An active member of B’nai Abraham Synagogue, he was elected President of the Men’s Club and served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Mansfield Masonic Lodge #36 and was recently honored with his sixty-year pin.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of 63 years, his four daughters Amy Stern and her husband Philip of Maplewood, New Jersey; Sara Morris and her husband Dr. James Bradley Morris of Danville, California; Beth Gallant and her husband Josh of Phillipsburg; and Eve Wittenbaum and her husband Frederick of Cincinnati, Ohio. Shirley and Howard have ten grandchildren: Mitchell Russell Stern and his wife Abby, Jared Stern, James Bradley Jr. and Caroline Morris, Alicia and Emily Gallant, and Lucy, Jeremy, Oliver and Tessa Wittenbaum and two great-grandchildren, Jonah and Sylvie Russell Stern. He is also survived by brothers, Stephen and Norman Falk. He was predeceased by his older brother Arnold.

Visitation is at noon with funeral services immediately following at 1 PM on Sunday, December 15th at Finegan Funeral Home, located at 4080 William Penn Highway in Easton, Pennsylvania. Donations in memory of Howard Falk can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, B’nai Abraham Synagogue (Easton, PA) or Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice (Newton, NJ). Burial will be private.
