Fred S. Apgar, Sr.

Fred S. Apgar, Sr., 78, of Bloomsbury, NJ, passed away surrounded by his family, on October 21, 2019.

Born on April 12, 1941, in Bloomsbury, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Apgar. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Russ Apgar in 2016.

Fred joined the United States Navy straight out of high school, with whom he served on the USS Randolf during the Cuban Missile Crisis, he worked for Ingersoll Rand and later Ecolair as a fitter welder and he spent many years serving as a fireman with the Bloomsbury Hose Co. He loved camping, spending time at the Bloomsbury Firehouse, going to the casino and buying and selling items at local flea markets. Fred also loved listening to bluegrass and oldies music, specifically 99.9 The Hawk.

He is survived by his son, Donald Apgar, his daughter, Dawn Apgar and her partner Eamon Connaughton, his sisters; Janice, Terry and Sherry, his brothers; Richard, Dennis and Dwayne and his many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and his parents, Fred was predeceased by his son Freddy and his brothers; Frank, Keith and Greg.

A Viewing is scheduled for Friday, October 25, 2019, from 5 to 7 PM at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St, Phillipsburg, NJ, with a Funeral Service to be held the following day, Saturday, October 26, 2019, at 11 AM, also at the Funeral Home.
