Evo J. 'Scrap' Gobbi

Born Sept. 15, 1920, in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Domenico Gobbi and Elisa Biagini Gobbi.

Evo was a self-employed master plumber for many years in the Phillipsburg area. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the China-Burma-India theater.

He was an avid gardener, woodworker, and bocci player. A graduate of Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1938, he was a varsity football and baseball player. Evo was a member of St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, a longtime and charter member of Oak Hill Golf Club, as well as a member of the Over 50's Club, AARP, the John Dolack American Legion Post, the Italian American Social Club, the Knights of Columbus, Warren Chemical Fire Company, where he was a life member, and a member of the N.J. State Relief Association. He is survived by his wife, Rose Rampulla Gobbi, who he married on Feb. 14, 1953.

He is also survived by a brother, Arthur Gobbi of Pohatcong Township, NJ, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Evo was predeceased by brothers, Americo, Hugo, and Aldo, as well as his sister, Clara Poch.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at 10 a.m., at St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church in Phillipsburg. There are no calling hours. The entombment will be at the Holy Apostles Mausoleum in Greenwich Township, NJ.
