Born on Feb. 22, 1932, in Nanticoke, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Cecelia Wisniewski Baker.
Ed served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954, during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of staff sergeant. He graduated from Nanticoke High School, where he lettered in football, wrestling and track. He graduated from Wilkes College in 1958 and later attained a master's degree from Colby College. He completed graduate work at Lafayette, East Stroudsburg, Trenton State, Rutgers and the University of Tennessee at Oak Ridge. He taught school at Washington High School for five years, where he also coached football. He taught physics at North Hunterdon as well as coaching wrestling and football at both North Hunterdon and Voorhees High Schools. He retired in 1987 after coaching for 30 years. In his retirement, Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and reading.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his son, Edward J. Baker Jr.; son-in-law, Scott Srager, and his brother, Robert Baker, and sister, Frances Baker.
He is survived by his companion, Barbara Tomer of Nazareth, PA; his children, Theresa Snyder and her husband, Rick, of Sebastian, FL, Michael Baker and his wife, Lori, of Annandale, NJ, Laura Srager of Easton, PA, and Annette Luancing and her husband Douglas of Vero Beach, FL. He is also survived by his siblings, Ann Hughes of Dallas, PA, Sylvia Lasecki of Drums, PA, and Theodore Baker of Wilkes Barre, Pa., along with 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, at The Finegan Funeral Home, 4080 William Penn Highway, Palmer Twp., PA, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Northampton Memorial Shrine, Palmer Twp., PA.
