David A. “Butch” Braskie

Born April 29, 1944, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Bosco Goncalves and Kathryn Brashy. He was also predeceased by a daughter-in-law, the late Gwen Shafer, who passed in 2019.

David served in the United States Marine Corp in Vietnam, rising to the rank of corporal. He worked as an operating engineer with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company in Staten Island, N.Y. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his children: Amanda Braskie and husband Scott Leonard, Anthony Braskie, Ben Braskie, Thomas Perry, Michael Perry, and Tammy Braskie. Mr. Braskie is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, as well as a sister, Mary Ann, and brothers, Theodore and Frank.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019, from 10-11am at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg, N.J. with the funeral service beginning at 11am at the funeral home. The interment will be at the Bloomsburg Cemetery in Bloomsbury, N.J. 

Memorials may be made to the American Legion or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
