Charlene E. Hummell

Charlene E. Hummell, 69, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away on June 1, 2020 in her home.

Born on Dec.11,1950 in the “old” Warren Hospital In Phillipsburg she was the daughter of William N “Red” Hummell and Elizabeth “Betty” Peterson Hummell.

She graduated for St. Philip & St. James Elementary School and was a 1968 graduate of Phillipsburg Catholic High School and Churchman’s Business School.

Char begun her career in 1970 at the YMCA of Easton, PA and Falk’s Food Basket in Phillipsburg. In April of 1972 she began her career at J.T. Baker Chemical and retired in 2011. She worked part-time at the Thought O’ You shop and was a Longaberger Consultant. But her happy time was when she worked at the Lafayette College Store. Char greeted every student with a big smile and great conversation. Anyone who attended the Lafayette Basketball or Football games would see her in “Her booth” selling merchandise, also with a big smile and lots of conversation. GO PARDS !!!

Char was a life long member of the St. Philip & St. James Parish in Phillipsburg where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was the co-chairperson of the Food for the Needy Committee. Char dedicated a lot of time in the yearly Thanksgiving Food Drive. Her biggest passion was when she would help out at the Needy Children’s Christmas party in the parish hall. Passing out the gifts to the children would bring a big smile to Char and she loved to see the reactions of the Children when they received their gifts. Char was the Chairperson of the Parish Pasta Dinner. Char loved to bring the Parish together for a great day of laughs and comradery. She was a member of the George Taylor Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Easton, PA., where she was the Chairwoman of the Veterans Committee. Char made up “Diddy” Bags that she would deliver to the VA Hospital in Coatesville, PA. She would load up her sleigh and away she would go to deliver them to the Veterans twice a year. Char organized the Flag Day Luncheon’s and the tricky trays for many years for the chapter.  A member of the Friends of Lafayette College Basketball Club. She was the past Secretary of the Quarter Century Club of J.T. Baker Chemical. Char loved to travel, especially her trips to Ireland. She was a huge New York Mets fan. “Let’s Go Mets”. Char’s favorite flower was the Sunflower, next time you see one it would be Char smiling down from heaven at you.

Char will be greatly missed by her two Sisters, Beverly Carver and her Husband Bill of Raubsville, Pa and Lisa Hummell of Phillipsburg, NJ, as well as her Nephew William H Carver III and his wife Alissa (Martino) of Forks Township, Pa and her Niece Amanda Carver of Windsor Mill, Maryland. The three loves of her life were her Great-Nephew’s Brady, Jeremy and Luke Carver of Forks Township, PA.

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions a graveside service for Charlene will be at St. Philip & St. James Cemetery, Greenwich Township, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date. The Finegan Funeral Home in Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements.
