Carmella Piperata

Born in her grandmother’s home on Mercer Street in Phillipsburg on April 16, 1919, she was the daughter of Italian immigrants Carmelo Bianco and Sebastiana  Bianco Papsodero. She married Albert Piperata on July 1, 1950, and enjoyed 51 years of marriage until his death in 2002.

Carmella worked at the Strongwear Pants Company in Easton, PA, from 1933 to 1961. Along with her husband they owned and operated Al Pip’s Hudson Street Market in Phillipsburg from 1966 to 1979. She and her husband then enjoyed 23 years of retirement together, traveling all over the country. Mrs. Piperata was a lifelong member of St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church in Phillipsburg and was a member of the church’s Over 50’s Club for 30 years, and was a 30 year member of the Brakeley Garden Tenants Association.

Survivors are her son, Albert L. Piperata and wife Ellen, of Lopatcong Township, and sister, Josephine Fichera, of Allentown, PA., as well as 50 plus nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Nunzio and Thomas Bianco, and four sisters, Theresa Macaluso, Connie Gerbino, Mary Libby, and Genevieve Marzano.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018, from 6-8pm at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg. Funeral services will be held on Saturday beginning at the funeral home at 9:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Philip & St. James Catholic Church, 430 So. Main Street in Phillipsburg. The entombment will be at the Holy Apostles Mausoleum in Greenwich Township, NJ. www.fineganfh.com.
