Berlin Kassis

Berlin Kassis,79, of Bethlehem Township, PA, passed to her eternal reward on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at St. Luke’s Anderson Campus, Bethlehem Twp., surrounded by her loving family.

Berlin was born in Kfarsghab, Lebanon, a daughter of the late Nayef and Juliette (Corey) Rizk. 

Berlin is survived by her sons, Dr. Arthur Kassis and wife Jeanne of Bethlehem, PA and the Honorable Judge Abraham Kassis; siblings Edmond Rizk and wife Vivian of Easton, Maurice Rizk and wife Salam, of Kfarsghab, Lebanon, John Rizk, Michele Rizk, Laurie Rizk and wife Elizabeth, Pierre Rizk and wife Arlette, and Norma Rizk and husband Rizk, all of Campsie, Australia; brothers-in-law Peter Kassis and Joseph Kassis of Palmer Twp., and sister-in-law Nadia Maroon of Sydney, Australia; grandsons Andrew and wife Hannah Kassis, Colin Kassis, and John Kassis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John Kassis, her daughter Dounia, her sisters-in-law Dora Anthony, Evette Elias, Barbara Kassis, Antoinette Rizk, and Laurice Tabet.  She was especially close with her best friends and cousins, Sanna Baurkot and Lila Hayek. 

Berlin was a devout and faithful member of Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in Easton, PA.

Of the many joys in her life, her true love was for her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, as well as her nieces and nephews around the world.  Her true passion was cooking and baking, and she was especially known for her Lebanese dishes and bread.  Berlin spent her life working as a cook at several restaurants, including the Sahara Restaurant in Greenwich Twp., NJ, which she operated with her husband.  She always gave her free time for church events and parties, particularly the Lebanese Heritage Day Festival, contributing countless hours to its success. She will always be remembered by those who knew her as a generous and giving person.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday March 9, 2021 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 4th & Ferry Streets, Easton, PA, followed by a Divine Liturgy on Tuesday at 10:15 am in the church. Interment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Palmer Twp., PA.

The family asks and appreciates that all those wishing to attend follow strict COVID protocols.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Berlin’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Lebanon Catholic Church, 55 South 4th Street, Easton, PA 18042.
