Born May 20, 1914, in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas Svachak and Mary Gladis Svachak.
Ann attended the Brensinger Elementary School, and she achieved her GED from the New York School of home study, and the Lafayette Academy of Beauty. She was employed at the Terrill Silk Mills, worked for Magnetic Windings for 29 years, and was the co-owner of the Ann La Verne Beauty Shop for 50 years.
Ann performed in many plays at Lafayette College and the Morris R. Williams Center for the Arts. She was an avid New York Yankees fan, and tried to watch or listen to every game. She was a lifelong member of the St. Peter & St. Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Phillipsburg, where she organized bus trips to Atlantic City, in addition to other fund raisers, sang in the church choir for 45 years, and was a member of the Greek Catholic Union, Lodge 316 Women's Guild. Ann also played basketball and softball and enjoyed bowling
Survivors are her sister, Mary Melick, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Nicholas Svachak Jr. and Andrew Svachak, and sisters, Catherine Miknyoczki, Verna Svachak, and Helen Casey.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Finegan Funeral Home at 302 Heckman Street in Phillipsburg. A Divine Liturgy will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & St. Paul Byzantine Church, 723 So. Main Street in Phillipsburg.
The interment will be at St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery in Alpha, N.J.
